Methodology
Values: comparable listings only
- We collect comparable listings or sales for the same make, model and model year. Each comparable is stored with its source URL, the time we fetched it, the HTTP status and a SHA-256 hash of the page, and a raw snapshot is archived.
- Only comparables observed in the last 120 days whose source returned HTTP 200 are used.
- If you give mileage and at least 5 comparables fall within ±20,000 miles, only those are used.
- If fewer than 5 comparables remain, we show “Not enough data yet” and no number.
- Otherwise we show the median price and the middle-50% range (25th–75th percentile), the count, the date range, and a link to every comparable.
Where comparables come from
Asking prices from public used-car listing pages on Carvana (national inventory search pages per model year; mileage shown by Carvana rounded to the nearest 1,000, marked ≈) and iSeeCars (model inventory pages; exact mileage and dealer city/state) and Edmunds (used-inventory search filtered to one model year; exact mileage, VIN and dealer city/state — VIN-listed cars are deduplicated by VIN). We read only what is printed on the page — price, year, trim, mileage, location — and store the raw page text as a snapshot. Pages that returned no listings or an error contribute nothing. A listing seen again on a later refresh updates its observed date instead of being counted twice. Listings carry no VIN on these pages, so duplicates across the two sites are possible; values are asking prices, not transaction prices.
Every model-year page offers its comparables as CSV and JSON.
No condition multipliers, regional adjustments or machine-learned estimates are applied. Asking prices are not sale prices; we label which is which.
Market context
The trend chart is the BLS Consumer Price Index for used cars and trucks (series CUSR0000SETA02, seasonally adjusted), retrieved from FRED. It shows national direction only.
Recalls, MPG and specs
Recalls come from NHTSA's Recalls API, queried for every NHTSA model name matching the model (e.g. “Silverado 1500”, “Silverado 2500 HD”). Fuel economy comes from EPA fueleconomy.gov (up to 6 versions per model name and year). Model availability and VIN decoding come from NHTSA vPIC. A model year is listed only if vPIC or EPA has a record for it.
No email. No phone. No dealer calls.
Every value page is static HTML that anyone can read without an account. We have no lead forms and sell no contact details. Email is only used if you choose to contact us or create an optional account for saved searches.
Trade-in, private-party and retail ranges
These come from Kelley Blue Book model-year pages (Good condition), stored with fetch date and a content hash. Our own listing median is labeled "typical dealer asking price" because it measures what dealers ask, not what they pay.
Refresh
A scheduled worker re-fetches all sources daily; each page shows its last-updated date.
